Davis Islands was built up from mud dredged from the bottom of Tampa Bay. They sit on top of two small natural islands formerly known as Little Grassy Key and Big Grassy Key. It is located in Tampa Bay at the mouth of the Hillsborough River. Davis Islands is an archipelago. At one time there were three islands. The two larger islands at the end where connected when they filled in one of the canals to allow for a run way for the Peter O. Knight Airport. Now Davis Islands is made up of two islands. A canal separates one from the other. Almost every street on Davis Islands is named after islands or bodies of water. There is a Davis Island Chamber of Commerce, also the Davis Island Yacht Club .
